Once COMET training is complete, members are encouraged to get involved with organizing by becoming a volunteer organizer for their union, and help establish or join a local volunteer organizing committee (VOC). Depending on the size of the local and its jurisdiction, more than one VOC may need to be created in order to keep the VOC's actions relevant to local community needs and concerns.
The VOC(s) would consist of members who are willing to work with staff organizers and assist with nearly every aspect of organizing campaigns in their respective areas. These members can help with a variety of important activities, including:
- Identifying unrepresented workers and potential organizing targets.
- Researching primary and secondary targets.
- House visits and phone calls to unrepresented workers.
- Attending council meetings, demonstrations, hand-billing and picketing.
- Outreach to other unions, churches, and community groups.
- Newsletter and website development.
- Recruiting other members for COMET classes, rallies, and mass meetings.
To sign up for C.O.M.E.T. training please call the local union at (909) 305-2800 to register your name for the next available class. Classes are typically held monthly on the Wednesday after the membership meeting from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the hall.
Thank You.
