About This Blog

Too many of our members are still suffering with long term unemployment, many of them I consider friends as well as brothers in the trade. As an appointed Organizer for Local 105 I wouldn't be earning my pay if I didn't continuously try to find ways to help put our members back to work.

Members looking for work will often ask me for leads. It is very seldom that I can recall from memory the details of what new projects have broke in my area and which contractor has the work. My goal with this new blog is to build a resource that I can direct members to when asked about work opportunities in my area.

The information that I plan on sharing will not be private or confidential union business. It will not be information or policy that is before the E-Board of our union. The information that I plan on sharing here is public information, accessible to any member of the general public, the big difference is that I receive this public information far ahead of many others because it is part of my full time job to retrieve it.

I will only be reporting on prevailing wage projects in my area, which I share with Business Agent Rick Foss. Most members of our local know that the Organizing Dept. has been monitoring prevailing wage projects in an effort to level the playing field for our contractors. Public Works is the segment in the construction industry where there are cheating non-union contractors who don't pay their workers the proper wages and benefits, which in turn allow them to under bid our contractors, and thus take away work opportunities from our members.

As I find out about public projects awarded to our contractors, I will list the name of the job, the address of the project, the Foreman running the project if known, and the name of the Superintendent of the company. I will also post updates as the projects get closer to manning up. If you take the time to subscribe to this blog you will be automatically emailed when I update the blog with new information.

I will also be using this blog to share information about political actions in my area, where we could use some volunteer help, such as school board meetings, pickets, and rallies that your Organizers are involved in. Like I said earlier, if you subscribe you will be automatically emailed every time I update this blog with new info, so please take the time to do so. If you have any questions about the info provided or maybe a suggestion to help improve the content of this blog, please leave a comment or email me.

Thanks and good luck!

Fraternally,

Will Scott
Organizer
